SKILZCORE

SKILZCORE is a “freestyle” program that highlights and expands upon the educational and “knowledge” aspirations of youth in performing arts. It is an initiative that targets art related careers, activities and education. Its current areas include: Hiphop Theater, Video productionDocumentary, and WEB and Internet Research. The SKILZCORE component of the archive is inspired from the “freestyle” or “lyrical fitness” challenges presented by Hiphop MCs who develop their art as they work to keep abreast of social, cultural and political events as well as arguments, obstacles and challenges in the Hiphop community. The level of knowledge, originality and “flavor” used to present an idea gives an MC a level of “skilz” that can prepare him or her for freestyle battles as well as maintaining a level of respect in the overall Hiphop community. SKILZCORE is offered as an intensive weekend hands-on teaching seminar arts project. These seminars are held across the nation and are directly related to Archive projects. Youth practice and obtain skilz in a particular area, and develop concrete products and participate in activities as representatives of the Archive. They are encouraged to apply their training to the development of archival activity and local and community arts projects. SKILZCORE works with and is designed to be complimentary to any existing youth program. We seek partnerships with colleges and universities, organizations, businesses and arts groups. SKILZCORE is designed to give youth additional marketable skilz and encourage community building and youth mentorship in order to equip youth with tools of self-empowerment.
