This part of Raekwon’s “Ice Cream” was sampled by Lauryn Hill on “I Used To Love Him,” featuring Mary J. Blige.  “Ice Cream” was produced by RZA.

Lauryn Hill is songwriter, producer, vocalist, and hip-hop pioneer from New Jersey and New York.  She is also one third of the Grammy-Award winning group The Fugees.

In an interview, Hill describes her own personal philosophy about love, which greatly influenced the lyrical content in “I Used To Love Him.”

Lauryn said it was an honor to work with Mary J. Blige, and reflected on admiring her ability to let her truth and honesty really bleed into her songs.

“Ice Cream” is a track on Raekwon’s 1995 debut release “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” featuring Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Cappadonna.  It was produced by RZA.

“Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” features every Wu-Tang member as well as a guest feature by Nas.  The album debuted at number 2 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums and peaked at number 4 on Billboard’s 200 list.  It sold roughly 130,000 copies the first week.

The album was roughly created to play like a film starring Raekwon, featuring Ghostface Killah as the guest star, and RZA as the director.

Raekwon’s inspiration for this concept-driven album came from a John Woo film “The Killer,” where an assassin and a police detective team up, much like the dialogue between Raekwon and Ghostface Killah throughout the album.

"The Killer" was released in 1989 and featured Hong Kong action star, Chow Yun-Fat.

Raekwon’s original title was “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Niggaz,” but later changed it.  

Raekwon specifically requested purple cassette tapes and CD cases instead of conventional clear ones in order to stand alone on shelves. After its release, it became known as "The Purple Tape".

On October 3rd of 1995, the verdict in the O.J. Simpson murder trial found him not guilty.

In March of 1995, Eazy-E passed away due to health complications with AIDS.
