Politics & Power

This section we envisioned dealing with current political issues, including immigration, the DREAM Act, the Arizona Law, and more. We would include links to the many websites we have collected that address these issues (e.g. websites promoting support for the DREAM Act), and descriptions of these websites. One area of particular focus should be hip hop artists who are outspoken on issues of immigration; a website called "SoundStrike" allows artists to call in and lobby for immigration reform.

This is also the section of El Sitio that we hoped would address Professor Morgan's issue of "Street Smarts" (street safety) in the Latino community. We have been struggling to come up with a real vision for what the street safety section will look like, but we hope it will include descriptions of websites, books, films, documentaries, and other forms of media that deal with gang violence, safety for women, etc. So far, we've found that website resources-in the form of help lines or forums-are limited, but maybe we could create our own forum for dicussion on El Sitio.

• This section will be more specifically tailored to rallying support for issues on immigration: information on writing/calling in to your Senator or State Rep, and local rallies/protest. We also discussed possibily having a Livestrong-style bracelet in support of immigration reform or the DREAM act.
