This research has as main aim to understand the establishment of Hip Hop movement in the city of Sorocaba (SP) through the black experience. In order to reach such goal it has taken as reference Márcio Brown’s life trajectory: a black youngster who describing his memoirs provide us with collective elements that allow to comprehend the arriving and consolidation of this movement in the city. Departing from an autobiographic narrative, this thesis intends to explain subjectivist processes, which take individuals to political and racial mobilization, and also to problematize concepts such as race, racism, essentialism, culture, African diaspora and identity.
