A White Man’s Look at Race and The Hip-Hop Industry

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Other People's Property
“Other People’s Property” is a very good book that is at its best when its author acts like a DJ. But don’t get it twisted: [Jason] Tanz sees hip-hop as text more than as sonic phenomenon or, for that matter, stone groove. “Other People’s Property” is made up of nine journalistic pieces, each a mix of reportage and personal reflection about race and the industry of hip-hop. It’s freaky, equally in love with Western philosophers such as Jean Baudrillard and the classic albums from hip-hop’s golden era. In a very hip-hop effort to get his shine on, the author mashes up his prose, cutting in and out of reportage and confessional styles.

Prince Harry Invites the Game to Rap at the Palace

The Game

Royal News: US rapper The Game is to visit Buckingham Palace - because he is a huge fan of the Queen of England’s jewellery and extravagant taste.

The hip-hop star personally requested a personal invite to the London palace so he could tour the grounds and check out the historical artefacts in the lavish residence.

According to reports, The Game has been given permission for his trip after Prince Harry, who is a huge fan of the rapper, made a personal request for the visit to be authorised.

Meanwhile, Harry is said to have annoyed his fellow army cadets by playing polo just two days after taking a sick day off.

The young royal was excused from physical training because he had a bug last Friday (22.07.05) - but was spotted playing in the Cartier International day at Windsor Great Park on Sunday (24.07.05).

The 20-year-old prince claimed after roll-call on Thursday that he felt ill. Staff at the Royal Military College medical centre at Sandhurst Military Academy kept him in overnight and when they released him Friday insisted he was put on “light duties”, according to Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.

It was reportedly Harry’s fourth sick day in eight weeks - sparking fears for his ability to complete the gruelling officer training course.

However, a Clarence House spokesman has defended Harry’s decision to participate in the polo match insisting he was cleared to take part.

He said: “Harry had a bug on Thursday but was released from the medical centre on Friday and given one day of light duties.

“Like all the other cadets he had a day off on Sunday. He checked with doctors before playing polo and they said he was fine.”
