HIGHLIGHT: The Latino gangs of Los Angeles live by their own laws. They also die by them. Robert Yager went to their no-go neighbourhoods to photograph the gang members fighting for survival on some of the world's most violent streets
I began taking photographs of Los Angeles' Latino gangs in 1992, two months before the riots began. I gained access to one gang in particular, the West Side 'Playboys', and subsequently photographed more than 15 others. The Playboys' neighbourhood is just south of Hollywood; I came to know its members by their nicknames, placas, and they came to know me by mine, CM - Camera Man.
