Before 2005

The purpose of this course is fourfold. First, we will examine the cultural, racial and religious significance of Tupac Shakur. Second, we will probe the artistic and symbolic dimensions of Tupac’s life and career. Third, we will explore the political, spiritual and social implications of hip-hop culture. Finally, we will investigate the moral and cultural consequences of the memorialization of Tupac’s life in the wake of his death.
