This course will focus on the relationship between crime and various forms of popular culture. The central theoretical themes in the course will be those of social constructionism. It is assumed that students will have had some prior exposure to the sociology of crime and delinquency and that they are broadly familiar with the form and value of constructionist explanations. Given its importance in the global marketplace, we will focus primarily on American cultural products.
