- How did you get into Hiphop?
I grew up in the Bronx, so Hiphop was always around me. In 5th grade, I started making pause tapes. I would hit the record and pause buttons at the same time on my stereo. While doing my homework, I would wait for a dope track to play on the radio, then unpause the tape so that it would record. I'd try to time it just right so that the radio DJ's vocals didn't mess up my tape. Wherever I'd go, I'd have at least one of my mixtapes on me.
When I was in college, I copped turntables and began throwing parties around campus. After college, I held it down at the Enormous Room in Cambridge every Thursday with Hua Hsu for awhile.
I didn't get into breaking until I was about 17 years old. I went over to the West Coast one summer, and saw my cousins breakin'. When I came home, I started studying bootleg Rock Steady Crew video tapes and started breakin' that way. In college, I held open practices on campus and started a breakdancing crew. I coordinated a battle in Harvard Square between MIT, Tufts, BU, and Harvard. Now I'm an old man, still trying to break, and still reppin' the culture.
